Yes, we know the title of this article may be a bit cheesy, but in all seriousness, making the trip to a Skippack Village First Friday is worth the effort.  Originally founded in 1702, this quaint town has both charm and character.  For those who have never been to Skippack, picture a slightly smaller version of New Hope minus the Delaware River.  Located in close proximity to Collegeville and Evansburg State Park, the village has been referred to as a “shoppers delight with unique restaurants and boutiques.”

Hosted from 5-9PM on the first Friday of each month throughout the summer (hence the name), the July 1st Skippack Village First Friday has a nice variety of events planned.  As explained by Art Berger (co-owner of the Skippack store the Wooden Duck), “First Fridays will offer something for everyone: Singles, couples, families with children and parents who leave their children with a babysitter.”  Below is a list of this week’s events provided by I Love Skippack.

  • Live bands playing anything from folk music to old time rock and roll.
  • Discounts at various restaurants throughout the village
  • Sales at selected merchants
  • Activities for children
  • And much more

Another feature of the Skippack Village First Friday is its emphasis on fine arts.  Throughout the village, artists will display exhibits on porches, patios, and in stores for the event.  For anyone looking for a relaxing evening this Friday, a perfect idea would be to take in the local artwork in Skippack and then dine at one of the village’s numerous unique restaurants.  I personally ate at the Back Porch Café recently and enjoyed the intimate setting along with the variety of original dishes offered.  I highly recommend this restaurant to all cake-lovers out there, as they have several one-of-a-kind cakes that taste as good as they look.
